Reasons To Be Positive
It is Monday, the start of a new week!
Yay! The book fair is on this week!
We have new lists for spelling Today!
Its library day! Yipee new books!
We have tech tomorrow!
In class we have been making positive pockets, in which you can write positive messages and goals for yourself. Also you can pop a positive messaage in other peoples pockets. We had to look in the dictionary for a good POSITIVE word to describe ourselves and it had to begin with the same letter of our name, for example
"Joyful Jade". We made avatars on the computer and Miss Shilling printed them off for us and we glued them on our pocket. We had to find three other POSITIVE words to describe ourselves like "sporty, creative, funny". We put photos on our pockets too.

A Quick Word From Miss Shilling
A QUICK WORD FROM MS SHILLING
ELECTRONICS:
Because we are such an awesome class of learners, we recently had a celebration in the form of an “electronics session” and a shared lunch.
We played “kid-friendly” games on the playstation and X-box, sang on Sing-Star, honed our math skills on the Smartkiddies website and ate our way through an amazing range of delicious food for lunch.
Alicia even made an incredible cake in the shape of a volcano! ( We are just beginning a study of Volcanoes).
A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO BAKED, COOKED OR BOUGHT SOMETHING FOR OUR SHARED LUNCH!
COMMITTED OPTIMISTS:
You may have noticed the “3 reasons to be positive” column in the BOP Times each night. It has certainly caught my eye and I got to thinking that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to talk about it with the class, and there are certainly a few students (and their teacher!) in Room 12 who could do with a bit of positive thinking.
We have set a challenge to become “committed optimists” and are having lots of healthy and valuable discussions and learning sessions based around this theme.
We will be regularly posting our own “Reasons to be Positive” on the class blog. Perhaps you can add some of your own!

ROOM 12 UPDATE
Hi this is Room12’s blog. We are a class of year 5/6 students. Our teacher is Ms Donelle Shilling. There are thirty kids in our class. Some of our favourite subjects are; Art, P.E, Chunk Check Cheer and Reading.
Last term our Topic was ‘Te Puna our Place’, one of the things we had to do was make a poster about our house like we were selling it. Then we had to write some history about our families and then do a big research project about a place of importance in Te Puna.
At the end of the term Ms Shilling was a bit sick (for a week at least,) so we had a reliever teacher to fill in for Ms Shilling, her name was Miss Neilson. It was quite a long time so we got a bit behind but we are back on track now.
This Term started with a Museum Night to display all our findings on Te Puna. It was full of facts and full of fun. If you didn’t come along to see it you missed out!
We have started writing our speeches; they have to be finished by week six.
We will be studying Volcanoes for the next two terms. In week four of term four we are going to Rotorua for our camp. We will learn heaps about volcanic activity.
Next Monday (because we were being good) we are having a sheared lunch and an electronics day. Every one can bring anything electronic. It will be so fun!

Night At The Museum!

At first we got together in groups and chose our topic. It had to be something in Te Puna. For example some of the topics were; Te Puna Rail Station, Te Puna School, Te Puna Community Kindergarten and Waipuna Hospice. We researched our topics and we gathered lots of information. Some of us even went to visit the places, interviewed people and sent and received e-mails. We learnt about interviewing and we learnt about open and closed questions. We spent lots of time typing up our information on the computer and backing it on coloured paper. Some of us got huge cardboard boxes and painted them. We painted signs to go on the cardboard and walls. We covered the boxes and walls in facts about our topic and we stuck photos on them as well. We also had to come up with an interactive game for people to play, and I thought some of the games were very cool and creative! Some of the games were flip chutes, switch boards, memory, and some people were even giving away prizes! Some people were wearing costumes to match their topic. We spent all of Tuesday setting up and making sure everything was tidy and getting ready for the special night.
“The Museum Is Officially Open!” People started piling through the doors. You could hear the sound of coins rolling into the donation box, the smell of ferns lingered in the warm air.
I could hear feet tapping the ground as they passed our stall. Crowds of people flooded the hall and scampered around reading information about special places in Te Puna. ‘Bing!’ slide shows scattered across screens and flickered on walls. Adults praised children for all their hard work.
What a night, definitely one I’ll remember.
